FAQ
About this calculator
How does this calculator work?
It uses the 2026 Federal Poverty Guidelines (1 person: $15,650 per year, plus $5,500 per additional member) and the official ACA formula: your share of the premium cannot exceed a percentage of your income that ranges from 2% to 9.96% depending on how much you earn.
What is the benchmark plan?
It's the reference silver plan in your area: the subsidy is calculated from its price, not from the plan you pick. If you choose a cheaper plan, you may end up paying little or nothing per month.
My income is low — do I qualify for nothing?
Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so an adult below the poverty line may fall into a coverage gap. There are exceptions (pregnancy, CHIP for children). Message us and we'll review your specific case — it's never an automatic no.
Is the number the final price?
It's an estimate. The exact amount depends on your county, the plans available that year and income verification on the marketplace. An Agency RL INSURANCE advisor reviews it with you for free before you enroll.
